Vacation Edit ⋆ Tropical Peach

June 14, 2018
Crop Top Culottes and Palm Leaf Styled By Daylynn Dresigns

You know the saying: When life gives you lemons, make lemonade?

Well, in this case, life gave us kumquats and a lush botanical garden with tropical humidity levels, and as a team (vendors listed below) we quickly became inspired. Next, we added a super cool wardrobe, vintage furniture pieces and floral for some “fresh-squeezed” content that is sure to set your summer travel goals on fire.

Island Style Tip #1: Palms, on Palms, on Palms.

Featuring Braid Crown by Kacie Corbelle

A braid crown, by Kacie Corbelle, is just the right amount of effortlessly polished yet free-spirited for this tropical environment.  Braids are such a good way to beat humidity and frizz while also creating a unique look.  Oh, and that perfectly matched red lip – that’s Kacie too.  Dainty gold details are by minimalist jeweler Amarilo.

Crop Top and Culottes Styled by Daylynn Designs

Look 1: This outfit is suited for those with wanderlust and also for those who want to live their best #ISLANDLIFE.  With this first look, I knew that I wanted to feature a tailored, yet feminine outfit.  The balance of the crop top and culottes provides the perfect amount of skin exposure to take on the tropics; they offer just enough air to stay cool with plenty of coverage to feel put together.  I mixed two brands, both available at Revolve, that every travel wardrobe should covet: a little red LPA number with Majorelle Collection belted culottes.

The adorably petite straw bag, by Nannacay, helps to further balance the look.  For a fun play on the palm motif, the soles of the Schutz wedges are covered in embroidered palms leaves.  What better way to fit in, with your botanical surroundings, than a cool girl take on island camouflage?

Shannon Grant Photography also masters tropical camouflage with her photo locations at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center. The full-on tropical vibes are thanks to Shannon’s placement amongst the foliage paired with the use of film photography to capture the best of the natural light.  ** Take note that throughout this edit the photos with a square image size are all captured on film by Shannon – swoon.

Look 2: This look is suited for a pool-side lunch or an evening spent at a plant laden boutique hotel.  A sunhat is an absolute must for dodging mid-day rays and a silky hair ribbon is perfect for keeping hair off the nape of your neck in humid climates.  Kacie, showed how effortlessly this polished look can be achieved.

Pair the dress with flip flops and a beach bag for trips to the ocean’s edge.  Later, throw on some espadrilles and a fun statement necklace for lunch or pair with heels and add a straw clutch for a dinner out.  This one base piece can be styled several ways to help keep your packing list short and sweet.

The straw hat, featured above, is from Anthropologie and the perfectly tailored white dress is a 1940s vintage find from Thriftwares in NYC.

Island Style Tip #2: Always keep an eye out for tropical travel pieces (or any travel pieces for that matter) while you shop at home: vintage shops, online carts and specialty boutiques can all inspire your next tropical getaway.  You’ll end up with a curated section of your closet that reminds you to book that trip!

Look 3: What honeymoon or special getaway would be complete without an ultra feminine date-night look?  This dress ties beautifully at the waist and cascades over your curves for both a feminine fit and feel.  It is so fun to wear for a night spent dancing or to just add femininity as you are gracefully seated at your table.

Shannon had fun with model, Chloe Harris from Maggie Inc., as she twirled in front of the camera in this piece.  For moments where Chloe is seated or perched, at the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center, her bubble braid makes a huge statement.  Kacie Corbelle was inspired by the style and material of the Zimmermann dress and wanted to include the playfulness of the bubble braid to keep the look lighthearted.  Effortless cool girl style is easy with Zimmermann and this piece speaks wonders with draped open shoulders and flowy material.

Island Style Tip #3: Rent pieces from a fashion lender: ie. Style Lend or Rent the Runway.  I rented this Zimmerman dress from Style Lend and you could for your next trip, too!  Renting is a way to get quality statement pieces without breaking the bank.  Plus, if you feel like its something you only want to wear while traveling it’s better to rent, enjoy and return once you’re done with it.
